The Allamanda Hat is first knit circularly, using no more than two colors at once (typical Fair Isle technique.) Then, you have the option to embroider it, as shown on the model.
The yarn pack for the embroidered hat comes with eight 25g balls of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift 2ply jumper weight 100% Shetland wool yarn: Two balls of each of the two colors used for the knitted base, plus one 25g ball of each of the four additional shades used in the embroidery. I chose Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift for both its wonderful colors and its "sticky" nature, which makes loose end management a breeze - both priceless assets, when it comes to embroidered knitting! Alternatively, you can knit lovely two-colored versions, sans the embroidery, using just 50g of each of two colors.
The pattern includes greyscale and colorized charts for both the two-color and embroidered versions, plus instructions for the simple embroidery stitches used (duplicate stitch, straight stitch and just a few French knots.)
